"TWILIGHT ON MAPLE STREET" print or notecard (PR41)

Shoppers fill the sidewalks and streets of downtown Orleans, Indiana, on a wintry evening in 1947. The buildings still standing on this block of Maple Street have such great personality. The Rexall store was a fixture on the square for many years.

The photo that started this project was a black and white picture, taken in the summer of 1947, given to me by the Orleans town clerk, Robert Henderson.

It was a challenge to turn that into a painting of a winter scene, lit by the fleeting tinges of a colorful sunset, but I was very pleased with the results.
