"ST. NICHOLAS AT THE GRANNY WHITE HOUSE" print or notecard (PR32)
The Granny White House was built in 1824 at Leesville, Indiana, by David and Sallie White.
Sallie and her first husband, Silas Sutherland, along with their six children, moved to Indiana from Canada. Silas died on the journey. Sallie later married David White and together they had three more children.
Sallie was known for her kindness, earning her the nickname "Granny." The home was originally built on the site of the 1813 Leesville Indian massacre.
The large opening, or "dogtrot," provided a protected area for unloading wagons. The home was dismantled and relocated to Spring Mill State Park, Mitchell, Indiana in 1951.
Unframed, unmatted, signed giclee print of an original oil painting by Mitchell, Indiana, artist Janet C. Foster. Printed on watercolor paper. Available in 2 print sizes, and notecards (with envelope.) Shown matted and framed for illustration only.
